Over-the-Air (OTA) System updates allow your Hyundai vehicle to receive the latest available navigation maps and software updates wirelessly through Bluelink, without requiring a visit to the dealership or manual USB download. *

How OTA Updates Work

Instead of downloading files to a USB drive or SD card for installation, OTA updates use wireless communication to automatically download. The latest software when available. Updates are typically downloaded in the background while driving and can be installed when the vehicle is turned off.

Eligibility Requirements

To receive OTA map updates, your vehicle must meet the following requirements:

  • Vehicle is equipped with a compatible infotainment and navigation system
  • Active Bluelink subscription: If your vehicle’s rearview mirror or overhead console has an SOS button, you can subscribe to Hyundai Bluelink.
  • Vehicle is in an area with sufficient cellular connectivity
  •  A new update is available for your vehicle

When Update Notifications Appear

Once a download is complete, a notification window typically appears after the vehicle is turned off and before you open the door, prompting the driver to begin the update.

How to Perform an OTA Update (Easy Steps)

  1. Drive your vehicle normally. If an update is available, it will download automatically in the background.
  2. Park the vehicle and turn the ignition OFF once the download is complete.
  3. Wait for the update notification popup to appear on the infotainment screen.
  4. Select 'Update Now' (or 'Start') to begin installation.
  5. Leave the vehicle parked while the update installs. Some features may be temporarily unavailable.
  6. The system will automatically restart after installation is complete.
  7. Confirm the update using the on-screen message or via system settings.

Additional Conditions for OTA Update Notification

  • To support proper OTA update initiation, certain vehicle conditions must be met before the update prompt appears on the infotainment screen.
  • The vehicle must meet standard OTA eligibility (Bluelink active and update available).
  • All new vehicles include 3 years of Map and Multimedia Over-the-Air Updates with an active Bluelink account. After this period, a subscription is required for continued OTA updates.
  • The update is typically triggered after the vehicle ignition is turned off
  • Door open duration may impact OTA prompt timing:    
    • The driver door may need to remain closed for approximately 30 seconds after ignition OFF for the OTA update popup to initiate.
    • Opening the door too quickly may prevent the update notification from appearing.
  • Turning the vehicle Off then ON before the vehicle’s modules had a chance to fully sleep affects the pop up re-appearing.
  • Wirelessly reconnecting to CarPlay/Android Auto at Ignition OFF then back ON may affect a consistent appearance of the installation pop up.
