Discover essential tips and information on brake maintenance for your Hyundai to ensure a smooth and safe ride.

A regular brake inspection not only ensures safety, but also avoids damage to your brake rotors. Hyundai recommends having your brakes checked every time you get your tires rotated, about every six months or 7,500 miles.

Typical brake pad wear depends on how and where you drive. For example, if you primarily drive short distances in the city your brake pads could wear out much faster than someone who drives long distances on the highway.

  • Here are some key problem indicators:

  • 1) A sound like metal scraping in the wheels when the car is moving. The sound will get much louder as the brakes are used.
  • 2) Brake dust accumulation in the wheel is another sign of wear. As the pads wear out, the amount of dust will decrease. Noticing clearer wheels after previous brake dust accumulation may be a sign that your brake pads need replacing.
  • 3) In most cars, the brake pad can be seen through the wheel. If it looks very thin—less than a ¼ inch—it’s likely you need a replacement. Some brake pads even have a slot in the center that serves as a wear indicator. Look at the slot, if it’s  almost no existent, the pad probably need to be replaced.

  • You can either perform an inspection yourself or bring your vehicle your local Hyundai dealership.
