Tesla Supercharger Station FAQs

1.       Can you currently charge Hyundai electric vehicles at Tesla Superchargers?

Currently, Hyundai electric vehicles except the 2025 IONIQ 5 can be charged at Tesla Superchargers that are equipped with Magic Dock adapters. The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 5 with the native NACS port can access over 20,000 Tesla Superchargers in North America. 

2.      What is Tesla’s Magic Dock?

There are a small number of Supercharger stations equipped with a CCS dongle installed to enable charging non-Tesla EVs. This attachment dongle is called “Magic Dock.” 

3.      If I want to use a Tesla charging station to charge my EV, do I need to create a Tesla account and add my credit card information?

For 2025 IONIQ 5, and 2026 IONIQ 9 Customers? No.  

For all other EV customers, yes you need to create a Tesla account and provide your credit card information to charge using the Tesla App.  

4.      How do I download the Tesla app?

Go to the app store on your iOS or Android device. Search for the Tesla app > Click ‘download’ > Create an account and input your personal information and credit card information. 

1.       How do I find the stall number to activate my charging session?

The Tesla Supercharger stall number can be found at the base of the charging post. Picture below shows post labeled as “1A.”

1.       How do I start a charging session at a Tesla Supercharger station?

Open the app to find a nearby station > select your stall number (i.e., 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D) > plug in your vehicle using the charging cable and NACS adapter (if needed) > initiate a charging session by selecting “Start Charging” on your app. 

2.      How do I connect the NACS adapter to the cable?

First remove the charging cable from the Supercharger post and connect the adapter to the cable. Open the charge-port door and plug the cable into the vehicle’s charge port. For a successful charging connection, the charging light will start flashing.  

1.       How do I stop a charging session at a Tesla Supercharger station?

Open the app and go to the active charging session > press “stop charging” in the app > unplug the connector from the vehicle once the session has ended. If the charge cable is locked, you may have to re-unlock your doors to unlock the cable. 

1.       How do I disconnect the NACS adapter?

For Hyundai EVs that require a NACS adapter, open the app and go to the active charging session > press “stop charging” in the app > once the session has ended, unplug the connector along with the NACS adapter from the vehicle first. Remove the NACS adapter from the connector and put the charging cable back in the Supercharger post.

2.      How do I pay for charging using the app?

Payment for charging will be processed directly in the Tesla app. You will need to set up a payment method in your account settings. Once the session is complete, the payment will be automatically deducted from your credit card. 

1.       Can I monitor my charging session in real time?

Yes, the app allows you to see live updates on the charging process, including the charge level, time remaining, and cost of the session. 

2.      What will the peak charge rate be on the different Tesla Superchargers?

We will work with Tesla to optimize charging performance. We will share this information closer to launch.

3.      Why is the charging price different throughout the day?

For Tesla stations, there are surge prices that you can check on the Tesla app for price prediction. Price fluctuations help balance electricity demand and manage station traffic congestion, while reflecting real-time energy market prices.  

1.       What kind of Tesla Supercharger station should I go to?

V4 – longer cable length, preferable for bigger SUVs

V3 – most accessible across all regions. Charger cable length may require you to park in the adjacent stall.

V2&V1 – are exclusive to Tesla vehicles.

2.      Will Hyundai vehicles have Plug and Charge at Tesla Superchargers?

We are currently exploring all technologies to enhance our customers’ charging experience.

3.      Are superchargers always open?

Almost all Supercharger stations are open for charging 24 hours a day, although sites with amenities are subject to business hours. Supercharger stations that have limited hours will be displayed on the Tesla app. 

1.       Can I reserve a station stall ahead of time to charge?

No, it is first come first serve.

2.      I am not charging as quickly as I expected at a Supercharger station. What could be happening?

Your EV and Superchargers communicate to select the appropriate charging rate. Supercharging rates may vary due to the EV’s battery charge level and temperature, charger’s temperature, current usage of station by others simultaneously, and extreme climate conditions.  

3.      How should I park when I arrive at a Tesla Supercharger location?

Take note of the layout of the location, including wheel stops or bollards which may make parking challenging. Parking at Tesla Superchargers may require your vehicle to park closer to the charger than at other chargers. The IONIQ 5 should be able to park and have the proper cable length to reach the charging port without taking two stalls or by backing into the stall adjacent to an open charger. Overall, please be respectful of other site users. Do not stretch the charging cable to reach your vehicle. This could cause damage to your vehicle and the charger.

4.      What should I do if I have issues charging at a Tesla Supercharging station?
